The Azuero Peninsula is where much of Panama’s folklore comes from: the pollera and its embroidery, the festivities of the towns along the coast, the craft passed between generations. Pedasí remains a working town rather than a resort, and that is a large part of what gives this stretch of coast its character.
The natural year follows the same rhythm. The sun and the tide set the day; humpback whales pass offshore in a seasonal window, sea turtles nest on nearby beaches, and birdlife moves through the dry forest behind the shoreline.
The Destiladeros landscape is a coastal mosaic: Pacific shoreline, rock formations, seasonal watercourses, native vegetation and dry tropical forest. The dry forest supports resident and migratory birdlife, most active at dawn and dusk. Species and numbers vary with the season.
